We're developing family homes to address a city shortage in Stoke-on-Trent

Date: 24/09/2021

We've began work to transform a former-pub car park into five affordable family homes, to address a shortage in Stoke-on-Trent.

The development is being built alongside Arthur Roberts and Sons, with work beginning earlier this year. The unused land will be transformed into much-needed homes after the Waggon and Horses pub car park in Bentilee was developed and sold in 2019.

The new additions will be built with families in mind. They will all have a hallway, separate kitchen and living area, downstairs toilet, patio leading out into the garden and upstairs a family bathroom with a mix of single and double bedrooms.

We decided to develop this type of home after discovering a shortage in the city as Laura Dalton, Housing Team Leader explains:

"Three-bedroom family homes are in demand in Stoke-on-Trent. We know there are families on the Stoke-on-Trent City Council waiting list that are in need of an affordable home. We also recognise a demand within our own housing stock too."

"We have over 3,000 homes across Staffordshire and the surrounding areas and there are always people looking for three-bedroom homes. They rarely become available because they become our resident's family homes for many years. Often it's only when residents no longer need the space or their needs change that they decide to move out."

"When family homes do become available to rent, people can't get enough of them and we get inundated with applications. We recognise this demand, so when the development opportunity at Dividy Road came available we knew we had to create family homes to do our bit to reduce the shortage across the city."

"The new development will not only provide much needed family homes, but it will also transform unused land for the whole community to enjoy too."

The homes will be completed in Spring 2022 and will be allocated by Stoke-on-Trent City Council. To find out more about the development or to find out how to apply go to: www.staffshousing.org.uk/dividyroad
