    Catering Assistant / Kitchen Assistant

    Join us at an exciting time for our catering services! We’re reshaping the service with an ambition to run across seven days a week for the local community and residents. It means we’re able to offer various contracts and hours based at our catering outlets located across Stoke-on-Trent in Bradeley, Meir, and in the heart of Stoke town centre.

    As a Catering Assistant you will deliver meals and refreshments to customers and visitors with a focus on delivering a great service with high standards of health, safety, and hygiene.

    Job requirements

    • To support the Cook and Catering Team Leader to provide a great service through the delivery of meals and refreshments.
    • Respond to customer requests for hot and cold food and drinks during service hours, including breakfast, lunch, dinner, and afternoon and evening snacks and buffets when required.
    • To be aware of allergens and customer dietary needs, responding appropriately to comments and requests.
    • Help with the preparation and cooking of a variety of meals and food in a hygienic manner.
    • Assist with stock control and ordering of stock, making sure that all food is stored appropriately.
    • To work as part of a team in a friendly and supportive environment to provide an effective operation of the kitchen including a high standard of cleanliness in all areas including equipment, service areas, pantry, stores and dining areas.
    • To always work within the standards required for health and safety and hygienic operation of a kitchen and service area.
    • To assist with maintaining all necessary records and logs for the meal service and general maintenance of the kitchen and dining areas.

    What we’re looking for

    • A level 1 or 2 Food Safety or Hygiene qualification.
    • A basic catering knowledge and skills from some work experience within a catering setting.
    • Basic skills and knowledge of food preparation and service delivery.
    • A willingness to learn and achieve.
    • A friendly and approachable manner to deliver great customer service.
    • A flexible approach able to work a variety of days, shifts, and locations to cover service requirements.
    • An understanding of customer needs.
    • An understanding and ability to follow key principles of food production and hygiene standards.
    • Someone who is able to keep kitchen equipment and service areas clean.
    • An ability to perform basic record keeping for the appropriate management of food production service.

    Job requirements

    • Assist the Catering Team Leader in delivering a high quality and cost effective meal service.
    • Assist in the preparation and planning of menus with an attention to providing a variety of healthy and nutritious meals, light refreshments, snacks, and drinks.
    • Complete all tasks in a busy environment prioritising preparation and cooking tasks as you go.
    • Maintain the highest standards when preparing foods, serving to customers, and when preparing short order food.
    • Consider allergens and dietary requirements for all food preparation and service.
    • Complete stock control and process food delivery orders making sure that food is correctly stored.
    • Maintain daily records of compliance with all food safety standards.
    • Work as part of a team to maintain a high standard of cleanliness and operation of the kitchen, service and dining areas.

    What we’re looking for

    • Someone with catering knowledge and expertise with a Level 2 or equivalent qualification.
    • Experience of working in a similar role, preparing, cooking, and delivering a high-quality service and food standard.
    • A passion for great food and excellent customer service.
    • Experience and knowledge of food hygiene, allergens, health and safety legislation and best practices.
    • Excellent communication skills.
    • A one-team approach.
    • Idea generation and implementation to meet service demands.
    • A flexible approach able to work a variety of days, shifts, and locations to cover service requirements.
    • Access to your own vehicle for business purposes, willing to travel to different catering locations across Stoke-on-Trent (Bradeley, Meir, and Stoke).
