Providing new beginnings for domestic abuse survivor

Date: 06/09/2022

Jenna* moved into one of our latest developments, Cecilly Mills last month. After a turbulent three years she says her ‘beautiful’ new home will give her a fresh start.

“I moved in a month ago and although I’m still settling in and there’s a lot to do, I’m so proud to have my own home.

“I was in an abusive relationship for over three years and it was so turbulent. When things got bad I would go and stay with my friend and the chaos wasn’t good for me.

“My friend could see it was having a negative effect on my wellbeing. She saw the new homes and helped me to apply.”

Jenna says she was amazed at the quality of the homes (pictured below) when she first visited and could picture a new life there.

“I was so overwhelmed. The quality of the home was brilliant. Everything was modern, fresh and new. I loved it.

“Immediately I began to picture myself there. It would be the fresh start I so desperately wanted. It would give me freedom, space and an opportunity to focus on myself.

Since moving in July Jenna says that her Housing Officer has supported her at every step of the way.

“Staffs Housing have been brilliant. If I need anything or if I have any questions I can get in touch with my Housing Officer and they’re so helpful.

Now she has a place she’s proud to call home Jenna says her next step is planning for the future.

“I’m starting college in August because I want to better myself and have a brighter future. I’m studying maths and English as an access course. Then in three months’ time I’ll be able to start a new course to begin my future.

“I’m so grateful to Staffs Housing for giving me my new home and the opportunity to live my life the way I want to.
