If you’ve been in touch with our Housing Team recently you may have seen a new face.

Housing Officer Katie joined us in October after working for over 10 years in the sector.

Katies is part of the neighbourhoods team who makes sure residents have a home and community they’re proud to live in. They do this by making sure customers are safe, supporting them with tenancy worries, helping to manage their tenancy and provide additional support to those who need it.

We caught up with Katie to see how she was settling into her new role.

“I’ve worked in housing for over ten years. I've worked across various roles from support, adaptations to Housing Officer. It’s my favourite position so far because I love that it’s so diverse with people from all walks of life.

“I was working and living in Wales but recently moved to Stoke to marry my husband and found the perfect role here at Staffs Housing.

Katie shared that a career in housing would help with her progression.

“Over the length of my career I’ve spent time with various teams, but it was when I worked alongside Housing Officer’s that I knew it was the job for me.

“It was a challenging role where no two days were the same. I’m an ambitious person and wanted to push myself to develop my career so though it would be perfect.

In her spare time Katie likes to help her local community and says it’s one of the reasons the job appealed to her.

“In my spare time I run youth clubs, help disadvantaged children and have helped people in my community.

“One of my proudest moments was helping a disabled lady in my community to access social trips. Helping her meant she was able to have a more active lifestyle and could engage with her community again. It felt good to help, and I enjoyed seeing her thrive.

“I think it’s one of the reasons I liked the sound of the job with Staffs Housing because it was helping people in their neighbourhoods. Helping anyone who is struggling and bringing communities together with social events like coffee mornings.”
