We've built affordable homes for over 55s, bringing life back into once derelict site

Date: 19/03/2021

We've transformed the once derelict Station Hotel Pub site in Meir into brand-new, affordable apartments for the over 55s. Alongside Intuim Construction Ltd, we have regenerated the former hotspot for vandalism and anti-social behaviour into much needed homes. The new addition, named Lime Tree Court, has 18 two bedroom apartments each with an open plan living, kitchen, dining area, two bedrooms and a wet room with a level access shower.

Lime Tree Court is an annex to our current scheme, Rowan Village. The scheme was purpose built for over 55s wanting to remain independent but live in a safe, sociable community. Residents can be completely independent at Rowan Village with a shop, restaurant, gym and hair salon, yet have the safety of an onsite care team if their health changes. The sense of community also helps residents feel safe knowing that there is always someone on hand to talk to. Residents can join social groups, knitting, history or art and craft clubs, go on day trips and more. Residents moving into Lime Tree Court will have access to all the facilities at Rowan Village and will be welcomed to join all social activities and events too.

Head of Housing Dave Allcock explains: “Here at Staffs Housing we pride ourselves on building quality affordable homes, removing the social and financial barriers that keep people from a home they are proud of. There’s a real need for more affordable homes for the over 55s in Stoke-on-Trent so when the land next to our current village became available we felt it was a great opportunity to expand.”

Both customers and staff are now looking forward to welcoming the new residents. Rowan Village Scheme Manger Julie Sisk says: “We’re excited to welcome the new residents of Lime Tree Court. We often see people who have lost their confidence flourish at the village due to the strong community feel and opportunity to build new friendships. It’s also great for families and relatives worried about their mum, dad or relative becoming lonely and losing their independence. They can have peace of mind knowing their loved ones have plenty of support, social clubs and groups as well as amenities  right on their doorstep”

The apartments at Lime Tree Court are now available to rent.
