Keeping you safe at home: a damp and mould update

Date: 07/03/2024

Last winter our Property Team carried out over 91 inspections and completed over 130 repairs in homes following reports of damp and mould.

Here at Staffs Housing we’re always committed to keeping you safe at home and we have a dedicated team that deal with and take seriously, any reports of damp and mould.

In winter months, damp and mould can increase due to colder temperatures and condensation.

To keep you safe, our Property Team introduced a new six-week post repair inspection check, to make sure issues of damp and mould are resolved and don’t come back. Helping to reassure customers that we’re here for them and will complete further investigations if things reoccur.

While doing all of this, the team have been busy making sure that when issues are reported to us in the first instance, that they are dealt with on a case-by-case basis that’s individual to each customer and home.

We spoke to Property Surveyor Sharon Lee about the work.

“As a team we’re here to support customers with any issues relating to damp and mould”, said Sharon.

“We know how issues can affect people’s everyday lives. We want our customers to feel proud of their homes and reassured that keeping them safe is our number one priority.

“That’s why if customers report issues, we’re here to deal with them in a fair way that’s individual to each resident and each home.

“This winter we’ve completed over 91 home inspections after reports of damp and mould and have instructed our repairs provider UMS to complete over 130 damp treatments or other related repairs.

“The introduction the six-week post inspection check also means we’re able to capture whether issues reoccur once a fix has been put in place. If we do find that the issue comes back, we’ll reinvestigate to find the cause.

“If you spot damp and mould in your home, get in touch and report it to us as soon as possible! We’re here for you and together we’ll find a solution that works for you.”
