The managed migration process for Universal Credit has begun.

This means if you’re receiving any legacy benefits like Working Tax Credits, Child Tax Credits, income-related ESA, Income Support, income-based JSA or Housing Benefit, you may receive a migration notice telling you to claim Universal Credit by a certain date.

In 2023/24 people who claim Tax Credits-only will receive the notice and will have to transfer to Universal Credit.

This month we’ve been made aware of letters being sent to Tax Credit claimants promoting the future change that looked like the below:

This document is not your Migration Notice and if you do receive this, you do not need to submit a claim for Universal Credit.

If you do submit a claim before you receive your Migration Notice, you could lose some of your benefits that would otherwise be protected by transitional protection.

We have seen residents who have made a claim after receiving this, who are now worse off for doing so.

If you receive this notification or any other and you’re not sure what it means, please seek advice from our free and impartial money advice service using the details below.
