Ever wondered why it’s so important to have your annual gas service? Compliance Administrator Ruth explains

Date: 03/07/2023

As part of our ongoing commitment to resident safety, this month we’re raising awareness of gas safety.

Throughout July we will be sharing useful information and guidance on our social media and website to help keep you safe at home.

Gas Safety Compliance Administrator Ruth says one of the most important aspects of gas safety is making sure your household appliances are regularly maintained and serviced.

“Did you know that by not having your gas appliances serviced each year, you could be putting yourself at risk of a fire, gas leak, or even carbon monoxide poisoning?” Said Ruth.

“As your landlord, it’s our responsibility to service any appliances that we’ve fitted like ovens, fires, and boilers.

“That’s why it’s important that if we get in touch to arrange an annual service, you attend or let us know if you can’t make it so we can rearrange.

“Ignoring the appointment notifications puts you and your family at unnecessary and preventable risk of harm.

“Unsafe gas appliances can lead to gas leaks, fires, and carbon monoxide poisoning which can all be fatal.

“Carbon monoxide is poisonous and can leak from an appliance that has been poorly maintained.

“There’s also a risk that the gas can come from flues, chimneys, blocked vents or from burning energy such as coal or wood.

“By having your annual safety check, you ensure that all your appliances are safe and to use.

“If you have any concerns about the appliances in your home get in touch by calling 01782 744533 or emailing hello@staffshousing.org.uk
