Quality affordable home creates new start for Staffordshire Moorlands family

This year we've created 13 quality, affordable homes at the Bellway Cecilly Mills development in Cheadle. Eight homes have been allocated to local people on the council waiting list, with the remaining five offered as shared ownership.

New resident Drew moved into one of the brand-new two bed semi detached rental homes with her nine month old son after a relationship breakdown.

Drew explains: “We’ve been in the house since September and I can’t believe how quickly it’s flown. Me and my son Harley are all moved in, I’ve added my own personal touches and I’m so proud to call it our home.

Before moving to Cecilly Mills, Drew was living with her ex-partner.

“We were living in an apartment but the relationship started to get toxic and we’d argue all the time. I realised that it wasn’t good for me or my son, so I decided to look for my own place.

The affordable rent homes were allocated to local people on the Staffordshire Moorlands County Council Housing waiting list.

“I signed up to Staffordshire Moorlands Housing register and when I was offered to come and see these new homes by Staffs Housing I jumped at the chance.

“A Housing Officer showed me around the development and I couldn’t believe how nice the homes were, they were built to such a high standard.

“There was a modern kitchen, downstairs WC, plenty of storage space, off-road parking and patio doors out to a secure garden too.

The new home offered a fresh start for her and son Harley says Drew: “I could instantly see a future in the home. I could see Harley out in the garden playing and me sitting on the sofa able to watch him, so I instantly said yes!

“Staffs Housing were super helpful and gave me all the information I needed to make the move in process as smooth as possible. Now we’re in, I’m just excited for what the future holds.”

The homes to rent have now been allocated but there’s still time to buy a home at Cecilly Mills from just £92,250 with shared ownership.
