Community safety in focus: one year of our new Anti-social Behaviour Specialist role

Community

At Staffs Housing, we’re committed to creating safe, welcoming neighbourhoods that our residents are proud to call home. Last year, we invested in this commitment by introducing a brand-new role within our Neighbourhood Team, the Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) Specialist.

This dedicated role has strengthened our approach to tackling ASB, supporting residents, and building stronger, more confident communities. Although there’s still work to do, we’re proud of the progress made so far and the changes we’re implementing based on your feedback.

A year of progress

Our ASB Specialist, Nic, has been at the heart of this work over the past twelve months. Through partnership, training, and a focus on resident experience, Nic has helped us make meaningful improvements.

Here are some of the key achievements from the last year:

  • A new noise policy
Designed to better support you when experiencing persistent noise issues and helping us to respond more effectively.
  • Staff training
All staff have now received training on ASB, noise, and hate crime. Ensuring everyone understands their role in supporting residents and managing cases consistently and sensitively.
  • Scheme walkabouts
In November 2024, the Neighbourhood Team introduced Scheme Walkabouts, which allow us to regularly visit neighbourhoods, speak to residents, and spot and respond to issues quickly and effectively.
  • ASB surgeries
In December 2024, we launched brand new ASB Surgeries, which saw our ASB Specialist visit communities to be on hand to offer advice and support to anyone experiencing ASB issues.
  • Stronger support partnerships
We've strengthened our links with charities, support organisations, and the police. These partnerships help us offer tailored support for residents who may be struggling to manage their homes and ensure we work together to resolve community issues. Our team has also been attending multi-agency meetings and best practice sessions across the housing sector and our community to improve our approach.
  • Listening and acting on your feedback
We've been asking residents who've used our ASB service to tell us what worked and what needed improving. The feedback has shaped several changes already, and we'll continue using it to guide our work.

What we're improving next

Your feedback has highlighted areas where we can continue to develop. Over the next twelve months, our focus will include:

  • Strengthening how we keep you updated about your ASB case.
  • Setting clearer expectations from the beginning about what we can and can't resolve.
  • Ensuring every case includes a final closure conversation.
  • Continue to delve into feedback to fully understand trends or reoccurring issues.
  • Improving ASB surgeries to make them more impactful and accessible for residents.

Working together for stronger, safer communities

Our investment in the ASB Specialist role is already making a great difference, and we're committed to building on this progress year after year. We know there's still more to do, and with your feedback, partnership, and support, we're confident we can continue to creating communities that are safe, supportive, and places you're proud to live.
