Celebrating 15 years of community at West End Village

This year marks a very special milestone for West End Village as we celebrate 15 years since the village first opened its doors. Over the past decade and a half, West End Village has grown into a thriving, supportive community where residents feel safe, connected and truly at home. 

West End Village is one of our over-55 independent living villages, thoughtfully designed and built with residents’ needs at the heart of everything we do. From modern apartments and welcoming communal spaces to on-site amenities and support, the village offers peace of mind without compromising on independence. 

To mark the milestone, the West End Village team came together to host a celebratory event for residents and their families. The village was filled with life and laughter as residents enjoyed delicious food prepared by the on-site restaurant, a very special 15-year celebration cake, live entertainment, and commemorative pin badges to mark the occasion. 

It was a day of reflection, joy, and community spirit – and a perfect opportunity to hear directly from residents about what living at West End Village really means to them. 

“Moving here changed my life for the better!”

Lynn, who has lived at the village since it opened 15 years ago, shared how moving to West End Village gave her peace of mind she didn’t have before. 

“I was living on my own and didn’t feel safe. Loud music at night frightened me and stopped me from sleeping. I found out about the village and the rest was history – I moved in the year it opened.”

Lynn’s experience quickly became a family story. After visiting, her mum decided to move in too, followed later by Lynn’s daughter. 

“Friends and family would visit and, after seeing what it’s like here, my daughter decided to move in as well. So now we’ve got three generations of us here.” 

“It’s like living in a post hotel!” 

Tracey, Lynn’s daughter, lives in The Pavilion at West End Village and describes life there as something truly special.

“Where else would you rather be? We have everything here right on our doorstep. The staff are so helpful and supportive, the residents are lovely, and you’ve got everything you need from the comfort of your own home.”

She adds there’s always something happening: 
“There’s always entertainment, something to do or celebrate, and a great community of people around you. The place is so clean, and you’re never on your own.” 

 “Feeling safe, supported, and content” 

Julie, another resident, has also lived at the village for the full 15 years and can't believe how quickly time has passed. 

“I can’t believe it’s been 15 years! Time really does fly when you’re having fun.” 

Julie decided to move to the village because of her health and the reassurance of knowing support is available if she ever needs it. 

“Knowing there are care options here gives me peace of mind. I know this can be my home for as long as I want it to be.” 

Julie has embraced village life, getting involved in activities like flower arranging – a hobby she now uses to create weekly displays for the reception desk at the village. 

“Before moving here, I had to make an effort just to get out of the house. Now everything I need is here. I have my independence, privacy and company whenever I want it.”

A place for the generations

Julie’s story also highlights how West End Village welcome families. After visiting regularly, her aunt Lynn decided to move in herself when a vacancy became available. 

“you get real peace of mind knowing someone would notice if something wasn’t right. You’re surrounded by a community and support staff who genuinely care.” 

Between them, their family now spans four generations, with loved ones regularly coming to visit and share special moments together. 

“This is our home. Being able to celebrate milestones like this together means so much to us.”
