Staffordshire Housing are celebrating our apprentices and highlighting the work they do, as part of National Apprenticeship Week.

Owen Stanway is a customer service apprentice and is responsible for answering calls, helping out on the reception desk as well as logging maintenance jobs and handling complaints.

He said, “I like the work atmosphere here and the attitude of colleagues, they’ve made me feel welcome and comfortable, especially when I’m in a pressured situation.

“I never really wanted to go to college as I learn a lot more doing it practically, and wanted to get the most work experience possible so I am ready for the future. I’ve always been for helping people in hard situations so I figured this would be a perfect place to work.”

After completing his apprenticeship, Owen hopes to join the police force, “I can use my customer service experience to help out everyday people as I now have major experience with first hand customer handling when it comes to either controlling complaints, enquiries and everything else a customer may ask for help with.”

Jo Simcox, customer services manager, said “Apprenticeships are a great way for people to learn new skills and and move their careers forward.

“Our apprentices receive hands on training, learning various aspects of customer service and how a housing association operates.

“They are pivotal in developing new projects with the team, and are also encouraged to undertake experiences around the rest of company.”

Sarah Birchall, HR advisor at Staffordshire Housing Group, said “We work with external providers to ensure our apprentices gain the right level of qualifications, during their time with us.

“We support them on their next career move or in applying for permanent roles within our group.”
