At Staffs Housing, our purpose is simple, creating quality, affordable homes that people feel proud to live in. One place that truly brings this to life is West End Village, a purpose-built village for people aged over 55, designed specifically for independent living, with everything residents need right on their doorstep.
For Lynn and her family, West End Village has become more than just a place to live — it’s a community they are proud to call home.
Finding a safer place to call home
Lynn has lived at West End Village since it first opened 15 years ago. Before moving, she was living alone in the wider community and no longer felt safe or secure in her own home.
“I moved to the village because I was living on my own and I didn’t feel safe. I would hear loud music at night and I couldn’t sleep, it honestly frightened me.”
Looking for peace of mind, Lynn discovered West End Village and made the decision to move in the year it opened.
“I found out about the village and the rest was history.”
The village’s thoughtful design and supportive environment gave Lynn the reassurance she was looking for, while allowing her to continue living independently.
When a visit turns into a new beginning
Once Lynn had settled into village life, her mum began visiting regularly. Each visit allowed her to experience everyday life at West End Village, from the friendly atmosphere and sense of community to the peace of mind that comes with living in a safe, supportive environment.
“I enjoyed it so much, and my mum came to visit me. She enjoyed coming here so much that she decided to move in herself.”
Seeing how comfortable and settled Lynn was helped her mum realise that village living could offer the same independence, reassurance, and lifestyle she was looking for too.
Friends and family continued to visit regularly, getting a real feel for what life at West End Village was like.
“After seeing what it’s like here, my daughter decided to move in as well. So we’ve got three generations of us.”
What started as simple visits soon became a shared family journey — turning West End Village into a home for three generations, connected by community and peace of mind.
“Where else would you rather be?”
Lynn’s daughter, Tracey, now lives in The Pavilion at West End Village and describes village life as something she wouldn’t change.
“Where else would you rather be?”
For Tracey, the village offers comfort, convenience, and support — without sacrificing independence.
“We have everything here on our doorsteps. The staff are so helpful and supportive, the other residents are lovely, and you’ve literally got everything you need from the comfort of your own home.”
A village that brings people together
Life at West End Village is about more than having an apartment, it’s about being part of a vibrant, welcoming community.
“There’s always entertainment, something to do or celebrate, and a great community of people waiting to support you,” Tracey explains.
She also highlights the everyday details that help residents feel comfortable and cared for.
“The place is so clean, and you’re never on your own.”
Proud to call it home
At Staffs Housing, we believe homes should offer more than a roof over your head, they should be places where people feel safe, supported, and proud to live. For Lynn and her family, West End Village is exactly that: a purpose-built community where three generations have found independence, reassurance, and belonging.
Their story is just one example of how village living can support people to live well, stay connected, and feel confident about the future.
