At Staffs Housing, we’re passionate about creating places that people feel proud to call home. For Ivy, moving to West End Village has meant not just a new home—but a fresh start full of independence, support, and connection.
Before joining us, Ivy lived in Cobridge. Her previous flat had become too small for her needs. As a wheelchair user, getting around was becoming increasingly difficult—and Ivy longed for a place that offered the right support, space, and community.
“I just couldn’t get around where I was before,” she shared. “I wanted to be surrounded by people, but I also needed to feel I could still do things on my own.”
Now, seven months on from moving into West End Village, Ivy is loving life in her new home.
West End Village is our over-55s independent living community, designed to offer the best of both worlds—freedom and privacy with the reassurance of on-site carers, friendly staff, and plenty of opportunities to stay active and social.
“The staff are all lovely, and the carers are nice too,” Ivy says. “There’s always something going on. I like coming down for the activities and entertainment, and when it’s sunny, I love sitting out in the communal garden.”
With accessible design and the support of our on-site care team, Ivy now feels far more independent and in control of her day-to-day life. She’s able to move around comfortably and enjoys making the most of everything the village has to offer.
Ivy is a proud mum of seven and grandmother to sixteen—and her family is a regular presence at the village. They visit often, and have become familiar faces at our community events.
“Everyone knows my family now,” Ivy laughs. “They love visiting—and there’s always something for them to join in with.”
After sadly losing her husband of 64 years, Ivy knew she wanted a place where she could stay independent, while still having a supportive team and welcoming community around her. That’s exactly what she’s found at West End Village.
She recently attended our VE Day celebration with her son and said it was lovely to get out of her apartment and be part of something special. Whether she’s popping down to the fruit and veg stall, enjoying an activity, or relaxing in the garden, Ivy is embracing life to the full.
“So far, I’m really enjoying it here. I honestly can’t find fault with the place.”
