At Staffs Housing, we’re committed to providing quality, affordable homes that people feel proud of. As we move into the colder, wetter months, we want to remind all our residents how important it is to spot and report any signs of damp or mould early, so we can work together to keep your home safe, comfortable, and healthy.

Your home should be a place where you feel secure, supported, and able to live independently. Damp and mould can affect not only the condition of your property but also your health and wellbeing. That’s why our team takes every report seriously and acts quickly to put things right.

Spot the signs early
Damp and mould can start small, but it’s important to act as soon as you notice anything unusual.

Here’s what to look out for:
•    Dark or black spots on walls, ceilings, or skirting boards
•    Peeling wallpaper or bubbling paint
•    Water droplets on windows or cold surfaces
•    A musty smell or visible patches behind furniture

If you spot any of these signs, please don’t wait, contact us straight away. The sooner we know, the sooner we can investigate and fix the problem.

Understanding condensation
One of the most common causes of damp and mould is condensation, when warm, moist air meets a cold surface and turns into water. It often appears on windows, walls, or ceilings and can build up over time.

You can help reduce condensation by:
•    Opening windows slightly each day to allow airflow
•    Keeping trickle vents open (above windows)
•    Using extractor fans when cooking or showering
•    Wiping away window moisture each morning
•    Avoid drying clothes on radiators
•    Maintaining a steady indoor temperature where possible

Remember, condensation isn’t your fault, and if it leads to damp or mould, we’re here to help.
