Bringing the Board to you – Mark Selby visits our schemes in Kidsgrove and Talke

At Staffs Housing, we believe that the best way to understand what matters most to you – our customers – is to come out and see it for ourselves.

That’s exactly what happened this month when Mark Selby, one of our Board members, joined our teams on a sunny walkabout around our schemes in Kidsgrove and Talke. These monthly visits help us stay connected to every part of our neighbourhoods, and this time, Mark was there to meet you face to face, hear your stories, and see firsthand the impact our work has on your homes and communities.

Mark was joined by Neighbourhood Officer Mandy, Estates Team Leader Dan, and Comms and Marketing Officer Chloe – part of the dedicated team that usually leads these scheme walkabouts each month. Their goal is simple: connect with residents, spot any issues, and keep improving the places you call home.

During the visit, Mark met residents at Sandpiper Court, High Street, Little Row, Goldenhill, and Dorchester Close – and was blown away by the warm welcomes, honest conversations, and shared pride in our neighbourhoods.

Here’s what Mark had to say about the experience: “It’s been brilliant getting out and meeting some of the people who live in our homes. Hearing your stories, seeing where you live, and listening to what’s working – and what could be better – really brings our role on the Board to life."

"It’s easy to make decisions in a meeting room, but actually coming out and talking to you shows us the real impact of those decisions. It helps us understand what matters most to you – and reminds us why we do what we do."

"I’ve really enjoyed today. It’s been inspiring to see the pride so many of you have in your homes and communities, and I’m grateful for the chance to chat with you all. These visits help us stay connected and make sure we’re doing the right things for the right reasons."

One resident told us how great it was to see Mark and staff out and about in the community. “It shows you care,” they said. “You’re not just sitting behind desks – you’re actually here, seeing what we see, listening to what we say.”

And that’s exactly the point. We want you to know that your voice matters. When our Board sees our schemes and speaks to you directly, it brings your feedback to life and helps shape the decisions they make on your behalf.

Across the week, our Neighbourhood Officers also visited schemes in Cheadle and Sun Street. At Cheadle, customers pointed out loose paving stones – we’ve already raised an inspection to get this sorted. At Sun Street, residents were outside enjoying the beautiful weather and talked to us about car parking issues and garden improvements. Plans are now in place to remove a problematic tree and clear some fly tipping.

Back in Kidsgrove and Talke, you told us about a fallen tree, waste disposal concerns, and a need for more landscaping. We’ve listened – and action is already being taken to get these sorted.

Your feedback shapes what we do. These walkabouts aren’t just a tick-box exercise – they’re your chance to speak directly to the people making things happen.

Want to join the conversation and show us your scheme? You can find out when your next walkabout is happening here. We’d love to see you there.
