Older woman leaning on the village bar with a smile on her faceBradeley Village resident Carol moved to the village over five years ago. This Valentine’s Day, she shared how catering staff Elaine and Sylvia went out of their way to make residents feel special.

“When I came downstairs on Monday, I was overwhelmed. Elaine and Sylvia had gone to so much effort to dress the bistro up for Valentine’s Day.”

“They had decorated the room, put hearts everywhere, there were chocolates, love heart sweets and glass vases with real roses in. There was even heart-shaped napkins which was such a lovely touch.”

“Elaine let us take a rose back home too so I took one up to my husband. I hid it behind my back and surprised him with it. He loved it, we told each other we loved each other and it was such a lovely moment.”

“It’s the little touches like this I appreciate. The Bradeley Village catering team made my Valentine’s Day! It even made those people who live alone feel loved too.”

“The team are working hard to make the Bistro the best it’s ever been. They’re always advertising special offers and making the cakes look lovely. We’ve only got to ask them for something, and they’ll try their best to make it happen. They’re planning to do something similar for Easter and I’m looking forward to it.”

Carol came to the village over five years ago, moving from a bungalow in Fenton.

“We lived in a bungalow in Fenton, but the area was getting progressively worse. We were broken into and we didn’t feel safe at home anymore.”

“I was also suffering with my mental health. I had depression and anxiety after struggling to adapt to a slower-paced retired life. So living somewhere I didn’t feel safe in didn’t help.”

“I received some help and was told to be around more people or think about doing some volunteer work.”

“Then my friend who lives over the road at Pioneer Place said I should come and move to Bradeley. So we looked around and I fell in love with the place. There was a real community buzz. Plenty of activities and on-site facilities and there was even volunteering opportunities too.”

“We moved in and the rest is history! We love it here. I volunteer in the shop two days a week which helps me to stay busy and feel social. My husband loves to garden in the communal gardens too. He even won a gardening competition last year along with some other residents”

“I feel so much safer here now knowing I have a community of good people around me. If I ever feel a bit low, I can come downstairs and have a conversation with someone and feel so much better for it.”

“I also love nipping down to the charity shop where you can grab yourself a real bargain. There’s a library and even bingo nights which I love coming to.”

“We’re happy here, and I can honestly say it’s the best decision we ever made.”
